Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts is happy to announce the upcoming exhibition Textural Forms: Michael Kiesow Moore, Nora Moore, Karen Searle. This exhibition will showcase these three creative individuals in a unique pairing. Karen is a sculptor and mixed media artist who uses textural and natural materials in surprising and unexpected ways. Nora is a painter and collage artist who explores layers and depth through her two dimensional works. Michael, Nora’s son, is an accomplished poet who responds to both of these artists’ visual works through the written word; his poems will be framed and presented in the galleries alongside the visual art. The show is on view March 28 to April 25, 2015 at the Banfill-Locke galleries. There is an opening reception planned for Saturday, March 28 from 4 to 6 pm.

In South Boston, this month’s paycheck covers last month’s bills, bingo is a night on the town, and tough, sharp-tongued single-mom Margie Walsh has just been let go from yet another job. Scrambling to make ends meet, she looks up an old flame—now a successful doctor—and risks everything in the hope he’ll help her make a fresh start. An insightful comedy of class and culture, this recent Broadway hit about how the twists of fate determine our path is both darkly funny and surprisingly touching.

The Stick it to Cancer Tournament is a benefit to support the fight against breast cancer. Each team volunteers a combined total of six hours, and all referees donate their time to tournament operations, resulting in an even larger donation to cancer research. In 2013 the University of Minnesota Cancer Center was the designated donation recipient, receiving $88,695 of the proceeds for this event. On Friday, April 17 at 7:30 pm those interested in the literary arts are invited to gather at Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts to hear from Saint Paul Poet Laureate Carol Connolly and writer Klecko. These events are curated by local literary professional Dara Syrkin and are free and open to the public. Refreshments are served and a time to socialize after the reading make these fun and engaging events.

Klecko is the CEO of Saint Agnes Baking Company in Saint Paul. For over 25 years, he has been feeding the good people of the capital city. Klecko has published cookbooks with Minnesota Historical Society Press, has been on Martha Stewart’s radio show, and has recently published a book of poems titled Houdini in Saint Paul.

When the fiction class she wanted to take was full, Carol Connolly signed up for poetry instead. Her first collection of poetry Payments Due was published in 1985. Payments Due was adapted for the stage and ran first, for two years, at the Ivar Theatre in Los Angeles and staged again in Minneapolis and ran for two years. In 1989 and 1991 Connolly performed in the Dudley Riggs Experimental Theatre Company production What's So Funny About Being Female? She had a long run appearing once a week on a daytime KARE 11 TV show about women, Between Friends. Connolly wrote a column, Connections, for the St. Paul Pioneer Press and Dispatch newspaper. She also wrote for Law and Politics, Mpls.-St. Paul, the Star Tribune, Minnesota Journal, and Ladies Home Journal. Connolly was a political and gossip commentator for Barbara Carlson's radio show on AM 1500 KSTP. Connolly has hosted the Reading by Writers series for over sixteen years, supporting writers and readers by showcasing emerging and established artists. In 2006 Carol Connolly was appointed the first poet laureate of Saint Paul, Minnesota by Mayor Chris Coleman.

Chester the cat and Harold the dog are the best of pals. But, one dark and stormy night, their family comes home with a very strange baby rabbit who has sharp fangs instead of buck teeth, and who sleeps all day and prowls around his cage all night. Meanwhile, all the vegetables in the house are drained of their color and turn white. Could this possibly be a coincidence, or could Bunnicula be a vampire? Chester thinks so – and he’ll stop at nothing until he vanquishes the new arrival, even if it means the end of his friendship with Harold.
