Inspired by a real event, Bright Star tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and ’40s. When literary editor Alice Murphy meets a young soldier just home from World War II, he awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past – and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives.

Alexandra House hosts its annual HopeFest event in the fall, as our lead into October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The core principles of the event are to raise awareness about domestic and sexual violence, remember those we have lost, and honor the many survivors. The event includes a brief program, a 2-mile walk, Kidz Dash and Kidz Zone with inflatables and games, BBQ from The Bones Brothers, and a vendor/exhibitor resource fair. This family-friendly event grows larger every year as more and more people recognize the impact of domestic and sexual violence and make a commitment to help end it.
