Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Campgrounds

Rice Creek Campground, located in the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Regional Park Reserve, offers 5,000+ acres of natural and scenic wilderness, only 25 minutes from Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Biking, fishing, boating, golf, and swimming are just a few of the many activities you will find within the park. Nature programs are held regularly at the campground amphitheater and at nearby Wargo Nature Center (one mile north of the campground).

You can also get in a quick round of golf at Chomonix Golf Course, located just a mile down the road.

Rice Creek Campground is generally open from mid May through September.

Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Park Trail

Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Park Reserve, the second largest park in the metro, preserves a swath of wetland wilderness that cleaves Lino Lakes in two. Motorists have to go around the park, but bicyclists can head straight across on the main park trail, which connects Aqua Lane and the Rice Creek North Trail in the west with Centerville in the east. The beautiful wetlands here are home to all sorts of birds, and you'll catch sight of Marshan, Reshaunau, George Watch and Centerville Lakes along the way. Being flat, it's also good for beginners.

The 5,500-acre Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Regional Park Reserve is one of the largest in the seven-county metropolitan area and contains some of the most significant native wildlife habitat and water resources in the regional area.

The park offers a wide variety of amenities, including the Wargo Nature Center, Chomonix Golf Course, Rice Creek Campground, and Centerville Lake Beach. Other amenities include picnic areas, boat launch facilities, biking and hiking trails, playgrounds and a fishing pier.

All motorized vehicles are required to purchase a vehicle entry permit to the regional parks. Annual permits are available for $25, good for one year from date of purchase. Daily permits are available for $5 per day. The annual permit is honored at all Anoka County Regional Parks as well as regional parks in Washington and Carver counties.

The Wargo Nature Center is dedicated to creating awareness, knowledge, and appreciation of natural and cultural environments and their resources. We strive to foster responsible stewardship and lifelong learning in people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds through environmental and recreational programs and actions.

Near the visitors’ center you will find our wild bird feeders, visited by much more than just a variety of birds. You will also see our many gardens; some to attract butterflies, another to increase water quality, and all are beautiful to look at. Of course, here at Wargo, you will always find experienced and friendly naturalists and staff to answer any of your questions. Canoes, kayaks, snowshoes, and kicksleds are also available to rent at the visitors’ center.
