Lino Lakes
The Natural Choice
Travel to Lino Lakes, the city with a chain of 13 lakes! Lino Lakes is conveniently located just north of Minneapolis and St. Paul. With access to both Interstates 35W and 35E it's a great location for tapping into the amenities that the Twin Cities area has to offer while enjoying the natural attractions and small town feel of Lino Lakes. From I-35W it’s just 20 minutes to downtown Minneapolis, and from I-35E it’s an easy 15 minutes to downtown St. Paul.
Biking, hiking, canoeing and camping are out your doorstep when you stay in Lino Lakes, yet convenient shopping and dining are available as well. Lino Lakes is just minutes from the Anoka County Airport, the National Sports Center in Blaine, the TPC and Chomonix Golf Courses, Running Ace’s Harness Park and Rehbein's BMX Arena.
Families will enjoy the Rice Creek Water Trail, a tributary to the Mississippi River, that is a fun place to paddle a canoe or kayak. The water trail begins in Lino Lakes at the Peltier Lake boat landing (just below the Peltier Lake dam) and extends 23 miles to the Mississippi River in Fridley. On its way to the Mississippi River, Rice Creek flows through a variety of habitats and back-drops, and wildlife abounds.
The upper part of the water trail makes its way through five lakes before narrowing into a creek.
After Baldwin Lake, the creek meanders through scenic meadows, under several bridges, through some residential areas, and into Long Lake. The lower section of the Rice Creek speeds up a bit, is more forested, and flows through a more populated urban area. Visitors can bring their own canoes or kayaks for the full excursion, or rent them in Lino Lakes at Wargo Nature Center in the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Regional Park to take in a section of the waterway.
Campers will find the Regional Park campgrounds a little bit of heaven right in the metro area. Shaded campsites, a beach, and hiking and biking trails will make you feel like you’ve taken the long drive up north, yet you’ll be minutes away from city conveniences and dining.
Do you have a YMCA membership? The new Chain of Lakes YMCA, located in the heart of Lino Lakes’ Town Center, is a state-of-the art facility.
