Enjoy the Twin Cities Gateway Region’s Fall Colors

The Twin Cities Gateway region will soon be bursting with fall color—hues of gold, orange, red and brown make the region one of the best in the nation to get a glimpse of the beauty of the season. Take a day and stop by the following parks, trails, campgrounds, golf courses, and nature centers to enjoy the spectacular view!

  • Rice Creek West Regional Trail: This Fridley-located trail is just 4 miles long and is heavily surrounded by lush flora, and is also well-known for fauna sightings, too.
  • Springbrook Nature Center: Enjoy views of oak and aspen trees while walking the nature center’s 3-mile hiking trail.
  • Akin Riverside Park: Located within the Mississippi National River & Recreation Area in Anoka, Akin Riverside Park not only features an abundance of trees, but interpretive panels and historical plaques throughout the park.
  • Bunker Hills Campground: Open through Oct. 20, campers can enjoy an entire weekend of fall color right through the region’s peak season at Bunker Hills Campground. Several camping spaces include water and electrical hookups.
  • Prairie Oaks Park Trail: This Coon Rapids trail will give you a glimpse of both forest and prairie.
  • Majestic Oaks Golf Club: Located in Ham Lake, Majestic Oaks boasts beautiful, vast grounds that will explode with color this fall.
  • Rum River Kayaking: Get a front row seat to fall color with a kayaking or canoeing trip down the Rum River with Rum River Kayaking. The outfitter delivers and picks up kayaks and canoes for rent and offers trips on the Rum River, Rice Creek, and Lake Johanna, among others.
  • Blaine Wetland Sanctuary: This sanctuary’s board walk passes through 500 acres of wetland as well as red oak, American elm, and American basswood—making it a great stop to see fall color.
  • Wildwood Park: Beyond the hiking trails that pass by and through the dense woods, this Coon Rapids park also features a play area and basketball court that are tucked away in the trees, making it a scenic spot to bring the kids or play a pickup game.
  • Chomonix Golf Course: Connected to several hiking trails, Chomonix Golf Course is nestled between several lakes and a deciduous forest that will make an autumn day on the links even more enjoyable.
  • Lions Park: Looking for a tennis or pickleball court nearby fall color? Lions Park in Ham Lake boasts two tennis courts and four pickleball courts, all of which are surrounded by trees. The park also features several walking trails through the woods.
