Minnesota Winds at Benson Great Hall

Minnesota Winds kicks off season two of professional band in our state with a performance led by conductor Mallory Thompson, who served as director of bands at Northwestern University in Chicago for 28 years and is respected across the country for her artistry, leadership, and commitment to band. This special program, curated by Thompson and Minnesota Winds artistic director Katherine Bergman, features musical explorations of American composers who found inspiration in the diverse people, spiritual traditions, and landscapes of this country. Beginning with Joan Tower’s Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman and culminating with David Maslanka’s monumental Symphony No. 4, this concert takes us on an adventure through the rich artistic and emotional range of the concert band art form.
