Anoka to Celebrate 34th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting
ANOKA, Minn. – Anoka is kicking off the holiday season in grand style with the 34th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting celebration on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024. The event will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. at City Hall River Plaza in historic downtown Anoka, and promises an event filled with festive activities for all ages.
This beloved tradition will bring the warmth of an old-fashioned Christmas to the heart of Anoka, with plenty of merriment for families and visitors alike. Event-goers are invited to enjoy:
- Free visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, where children can share their holiday wish lists and capture special moments.
- A variety of photo opportunities throughout the event, perfect for holiday selfies and family portraits.
- Complimentary horse-drawn trolley rides along scenic Second Avenue.
- The joyful sounds of the Anoka High School Seventh Avenue Carolers and the St. Francis High School Madrigal Singers.
- Bonfires to keep warm.
- Food vendors selling hot cocoa, s’mores, sandwiches, fair foods, beverages, and tasty treats.
The highlight of the event will be at 5:55 p.m., when Mayor Rice will address the crowd and lead the countdown to the tree lighting at 5:59 p.m. As the tree lights up, fireworks will paint the sky with vibrant colors and shimmering sparks.
In the spirit of giving, the event will feature charitable opportunities:
- Toys for Joy Anoka County will be accepting new, unwrapped toys for children of all ages at their booth. They will also be selling s’mores kits for roasting at the bonfires.
- First Student Bus Company will have a bus parked on 1st Avenue to collect non-perishable food items and monetary donations for ACBC Food Shelf as part of the “Stuff the Bus” campaign.
