Anoka to Celebrate its 35th Annual Tree Lighting Event

ANOKA, Minn. – Anoka is kicking off the holiday season in grand style with the 35th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting celebration on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025. The event will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. at City Hall River Plaza (2015 First Ave. No.) in historic downtown Anoka and promises festive activities for all.
This beloved tradition will bring the warmth of an old-fashioned Christmas to the heart of Anoka, with plenty of merriment for families and visitors alike. Eventgoers are invited to enjoy:
- Visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus
- Horse-drawn trolley rides
- Live reindeer and petting zoo
- Anoka High School Seventh Avenue Carolers
- Bonfires
- Selfie stations
- Kids craft
- Food vendors
The highlight of the event will be at 5:55 p.m., when Mayor Erik Skogquist will welcome the crowd and start the countdown to the tree lighting at 5:59 p.m. In memory of Joe Anderla, 40-year board member of Anoka’s Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, his family will flip the switch to light the tree. Fireworks will paint the sky with vibrant colors and shimmering sparks.
In the spirit of giving, the event will feature charitable opportunities:
- Toys for Joy Anoka County will be accepting new, unwrapped toys for children of all ages at their booth. They will also be selling s’mores kits for roasting at the bonfires.
- Anoka Women of Today will collect non-perishable food items and monetary donations for ACBC Food Shelf at their booth and will be selling hot chocolate.
Arrive early to enjoy all that Anoka has to offer:
- Take a scenic walk along the Rum River.
- Shop local at the Anoka Artisan Delights Winter Market at The Mill Site – Events on the River (111 Harrison Street), open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., featuring 20 talented artisans showcasing unique artwork.
- Explore downtown Anoka’s unique shops and find a seat at any of the popular restaurants for a delicious meal.
- The Anoka Social District is now open year-round.
