2015 NAHL Showcase comes to National Sports Center Sept. 23-27

The annual event is one of the largest tournaments hosted at the Schwan Super Rink

Blaine, Minn. (September 21, 2015) — The North American Hockey League (NAHL) Showcase Tournament, in its 13th year as one of hockey’s most prestigious and well-attended events of the entire season, will be held September 23-27, at the Schwan Super Rink on the campus of the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn. All 22 NAHL teams will play four regular-season games at the Showcase, which attracts close to 10,000 people in overall attendance, including more than 300 junior, NCAA and professional scouts.

The NAHL Showcase moved to the Super Rink in 2004, and it has become one of the largest tournaments that the Schwan Super Rink hosts annually. It is also a major driver of additional revenue to local businesses, especially restaurants.

Besides the 22 NAHL teams in attendance, the event also features all 38 teams from the North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL), eight additional teams from the Upper Midwest High School Elite League (UMHSEL) and 12 teams from the Tier I High Performance Hockey League (HPHL. In total, 80 teams will play a total of 191 games at the event.

For scouting purposes, the event is a yearly gathering for every NCAA program and NHL team as they get their first look at some of the best and brightest hockey talent North America has to offer.  Last season over 330 NHL, NCAA and junior scouts attended the event.

The Schwan Super Rink is the largest ice arena of its kind in the world. The state-of-the-art facility, a $21 million project totaling over 300,000 square feet, features eight sheets of ice under one roof. With all its varied amenities and services, the Schwan Super Rink is absolutely unique in the world of ice sport facilities.

This marks the fifth straight Showcase in which the NAHL has partnered with the Upper Midwest High School Elite League.  It also marks the fourth straight Showcase that the NAHL has partnered with the High Performance Hockey League. The partnerships between the NAHL and the Elite League and the HPHL further enhances the Showcase since all see numerous players commit to NCAA programs each season.
