Fun Things to Do in the Twin Cities Gateway
Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Minnesota
Spring and summer in the Gateway are jam packed with fun Twin Cities events, attractions and things to do, all within minutes of Minneapolis and St. Paul.
Let’s start with waterparks. There’s no better way to cool off during the hot summer months than taking the kids to a waterpark like Bunker Beach, the largest outdoor water park in Minnesota. The kids will love the wave pool and water slides while mom and dad may prefer a leisurely float down the lazy river.
If golf is more your bag, the Gateway is well above par with nine excellent golf courses near Minneapolis and St. Paul including Bunker Hills Golf Club and TPC Twin Cities. The latter plays host to the 3M Open, a stop on the PGA tour. The event will feature many of the best players in the world and is sure to be a big hit with golf-crazed Minnesotans.
If you like watching sports, the National Sports Center – the world’s largest amateur sports facility in Blaine – offers a wide array of tournaments and competition on an almost daily basis, including soccer to lacrosse to ultimate disc and hockey.
The Twin Cities are well known as one of the best metropolitan areas for biking in the USA. In the Gateway, biking enthusiasts will find a vast paved trail network with connections to iconic bike trails like the Mississippi River Trail. Must-ride trails include Rum River Trail in Anoka, Coon Creek Regional Trail in Coon Rapids and Rice Creek Trail, shared by Fridley, New Brighton, Shoreview, Mounds View and Lino Lakes.
Beer and wine lovers will also find Twin Cities Breweries & Wineries serving up some of the finest craft beers and delicious wines crafted in the state.
The Gateway features four excellent craft breweries including Invictus Brewing Company in Blaine. Invictus offers brewery tours and a beautiful taproom with a capacity of 200 people and partners with the Tipsy Steer which serves up sassy brew food for beer lovers. Wine enthusiast will love Willow Tree Winery in Ham Lake. Stop by and sample a variety of white and red wines and take home a bottle or two of your favorites.
